MEET THE TEAM
Two Ghanaian natives, Eryam Hevi and Agbeli Ameko (top), have been working closely with James Darden (middle-left), a US-based non-profit executive, to build the foundation for Team Ghana.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
Mr. Ameko and Mr. Hevi approached the Ministry of Sports about how the idea of a global ocean racing team could help support the government's Vision 2020 development plan.
In April 2012, they received official approval from the National Sports Authority to represent the country as the new national team.
Team Ghana will be the FIRST African based crew to set sail on a 40,000 nautical mile round-the world adventure. Currently, we are working to enter the Amateur Clipper World Race in 2015-16 to prepare our team for the Volvo Ocean Race in 2017-18 and the IMOCA race series.
Our ultimate mission is to support Ghana's Vision 2020 plan for a brighter future for our country. For more information about our environmental initiatives, please visit Take Back Our Routes or take a look at the development plans for the future Cape Coast Marina City.
